MICHAEL POWERS “Cinco de Michael”

Fresh on the heels of last year’s funky New Jack Jazz, Michael Powers-the much loved Seattle guitarist- comes roaring back with Cinco de Michael. And, as you might infer from the title, he has stepped up his very danceable groove on this one – a good deal of which is Latin and Salsa inflected! Right out of the chute the tone of the album is set by a loving nod to Carlos Santana – serving notice that Cinco de Michael is meant to be a very fun listen.

A virtuoso in both acoustic and electric mode, Powers employs an excellent rhythm section, mixing originals with a few familiar songs such as Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time (given a little twist at its conclusion right in keeping with the album’s theme).

Cinco de Michael is a new highlight in the catalog of a prolific Seattle guitarist.
